Childhood dreaming...

By Talking Heads on Mar 26, 09 12:36 PM in

Prince William wanted to be a bobby. How many early dreams have became a reality for you? Just the one.

MEMORIES of childhood ambitions were recalled this week after Prince William revealed that as a child he wanted to become a policeman.

He let slip his Prince Bobby dream while being interviewed for CBBC's News round by Alice - a 10-year-old cancer patient at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London.

Prince William, 26, the hospital's president, had to admit that his boyhood ambition to be a policeman, "probably wasn't a good idea".

We can all imagine if he did become a royal copper how those he arrested would react when he declared he was Police Constable Prince William Windsor. Who would believe it anyway?

His secret longing as a kid to join the boys in blue has touched a nerve with his subjects who have all had such thoughts of: "What I would like to be when I grow up."

To find out what some people in their tender years hoped to be come in adulthood we went to George Square. Here's what they said...

Duncan Faichney"Funnily enough I had an uncle who was a painter and decorator and as a boy I wanted to be one just like him when I grew up. "Instead I became a postman and later worked in the building trade. I guess that's life."
Duncan Faichney, 72
Sandra Faichney"I dreamt about being a nurse when I was a little girl because I wanted to help people. I didn't become a nurse. I did become a carer for elderly people which is helping people so I fulfilled my ambition in one way."
Sandra Faichney,
Kirsty Cameron"As a wee girl I had lots of dream jobs. They changed almost every week from dancer to air stewardess. "In the end I am studying podiatry, but also have ambitions to work in the media and events."
Student at Caledonian University, Kirsty Cameron, 23, of Port Dundas
Lyndsey Ross"I once thought I would grow up to be a ballerina. "It didn't happen and now I am studying marketing. I am still not exactly sure what profession I'll follow."
Strathclyde University student Lyndsey Ross, 20, from the city centre
Stewart Kelly "As a kid I was desperate to become an airline pilot and nothing else. "How I switched from that to studying music I don't know. Now I am doing just that - studying music and playing the guitar at the RSAMD."
Stewart Kelly, 20, living in the city centre
Alasdair Inglis "You won't believe this but I always wanted to be a musician when I was a kid. Listening to my dad's Beatles records influenced me at first followed by Punk Rock. "That desire has never left me and I am studying classical guitar at the RSMD with a view to playing solo or in a group."
Alasdair Inglis, 19, of Glasgow
